Reading Olympics

OMC proudly champions two Blue Ribbon teams in the Philadelphia Reading Olympics, a citywide program that combines the pleasure of reading with the excitement of competition.  Our Intermediate and Middle School teams have earned the highest level of achievement since OMC’s initial participation in 2007, and are coached by OMC teachers Nancy Weir and Melissa Logan.  This unique activity allows students to work collaboratively toward a common goal as they train their brains for a May tournament held at a local university.

The competition is sponsored by PHILADELPHIA READS, in collaboration with the Archdiocese, School  District, Free Library, and City of Philadelphia. Teams from public, parochial, independent, and private schools throughout the region gather to match wits and words on the content and comprehension of 20 books selected by a panel of education and library professionals. This combination of athletics and academics helps to foster a love of reading while imparting upon participants the values of dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
