After school art is offered once a week in the spring to all OMC students in grades K through 8. The main goal of the class is to provide exposure to a diverse group of artists, mediums, and art movements. The children use a variety of mediums over the course of the semester including different types of paint, paper and other art forms. Some of the activities include silhouettes, collage, printmaking, and other projects inspired by different artists and art movements.
The children are taught to take pride in their artwork, appreciate the process of learning and improving, and appreciate the artwork of their fellow students. Art created in this program has been recognized over the years in the Archdiocesan Art Contest and in the Philadelphia Water Works Art Contest. Student work has been displayed at the Woodmere Art Museum, the Moore College of Art, The Olde City Clay Studio, shops along Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill – and most importantly on the refrigerators in homes of most OMC families!
